This clerical script artwork features the five-character poem *"Seeking the Hermit of Changshan at Nansi Creek"* by the Tang Dynasty poet Liu Changqing. The poem reads: *"Along the path I pass, moss and grass show traces of footsteps. White clouds cling to the tranquil islet, spring grass seals the secluded gate. After the rain, I admire the pine trees' hues, following the mountains to the water’s source. Flowers by the stream echo Zen's serenity; facing each other, words are forgotten."* The verses depict the poet's observations and feelings as he seeks out the hermit, portraying a serene and elegant scene of a secluded mountain retreat. The calligraphy is meticulously composed, with a balanced arrangement of density and spacing, creating a harmonious visual effect. The distinctive features of clerical script, such as the "silkworm head and swallow tail" strokes and the rhythmic wave-like flourishes, are vividly expressed in each character. The brushstrokes are a perfect blend of angularity and roundness, firmness and softness, preserving the rustic charm of clerical script while adding a refined scholarly aesthetic.
