The path through the western fields is fragrant and lush; the spring breeze is just right to follow. A mountain town rests by winding shores; the ancient ferry enters a grove of tall trees. All day, catkins drift in the air; travelers linger in the green shade. At dusk, music and song arise — only the painted hall feels ever more profound. A five-character poem by Xu Ji, a poet of the Song Dynasty. By Yantang's master Changjiu, beneath Mount Huashan.

This calligraphy work presents a regulated five-character poem titled *“Spring Day Visit to Director Zhang’s Garden”* by the Song Dynasty poet **Xu Ji**. The poem paints a vivid picture of a spring outing in a garden: the opening couplet, “Along the fragrant paths of the western fields, the spring breeze is just right to follow,” sets the tone with a sense of seasonal delight. The middle couplets describe a mountain town by a winding shore, drifting catkins, and visitors enjoying the cool shade, capturing the elegance and tranquility of the southern landscape. The final line, “As evening comes, songs and music rise — the painted hall feels ever deeper,” leaves a lingering atmosphere of gentle joy and poetic resonance. The calligraphy was written by **Changjiu**, Master of Yantang, beneath Mount Hua. His brushwork flows smoothly and confidently, with well-balanced characters and graceful spacing. The style is refined and classic, echoing the serene elegance of the poem. This piece is a harmonious union of poetic imagery and expressive calligraphy, reflecting both the artist’s technical mastery and cultivated spirit — a fine example of poetry and brush art complementing each other.
