Spring steals in before the warmth has fully come; it is the willows by the brook this morning. Grass games hide in the slanting sun, and two or three flowers lean over the wall. Under chilly green willows the path runs to the brook and the hills. Where a faint fragrance suddenly fills the air, a maiden in a cyan skirt and white sleeves passes the red rail — from whose house does she come? Far mountains stretch with wandering clouds; the one I miss walks beyond the open plain, while young boys tend the new fields. After rain, longing nearly breaks; evening light lingers by the west chamber. All day she weaves among hemp and mulberry, and by moonlight tends silkworms after the frost. Year after year, letters lengthen the grief; those sorrowful lines cannot even stay in dreams. They say the capital holds a thousand joys; how do you fare, and are you safe?
