At Xiaoman I do not speak of the Song of the Great Wind; the years on paper are hardly worn by much grinding. The capital, seen with blue-eyed favor, has fine scenery—how many heroes are like halberds sunk into oblivion. Lord Han’s gathered valor weighs heavy through a thousand autumns; Huizong’s wondrous hand was held cheap in his own day. I trade my paintings for rice—how dull it is; my hand responds, but my heart does not, and grace runs thin. One day, when I have paid off my debt of painting, I shall go paint pineapples in front of everyone.

Three columns of cursive script. The poem refuses to recite the old Song of the Great Wind and ends by joking about painting pineapples. A red seal of Nancun sits at the lower left. Mounted as a vertical hanging scroll.
