Description
The final piece in the nine-work "Dream of the Butterfly" series, this gongbi painting on silk renders a butterfly in luminous, finely layered color amid detailed botanical surroundings. Su Shi's inscribed line, 'In the dream, vividly a butterfly, so light of body,' returns the series to its philosophical source: Zhuangzi's parable of the man who dreamed he was a butterfly and woke uncertain which was real. As the closing work, it distills the series' central question into a single image of weightless, dreamlike flight.
