A winding river runs through this intimate landscape, leading the eye from a figure seated in a waterside pavilion through dense forests to faintly visible distant mountains. The golden ground creates an ethereal atmosphere as it contrasts with varied shades of ink and green vegetation. Masterful use of negative space and subtle tonal variations give the composition both poetic stillness and underlying vitality, a classical Jiangnan scene distilled into the elegant fan format.
