Description
After Shi Tao's originals, this painting depicts a solitary arhat walking along a rustic path, staff in hand, his expression serene and unhurried. The sparse background of barren trees and weathered rocks, rendered in light ink washes, creates a landscape stripped to its spiritual essentials. The arhat's quiet forward movement through this austere terrain evokes the Buddhist ideal of the spiritual journey, each step taken in mindful presence. Part of a series of eight arhat paintings.
