After Shi Tao's celebrated originals, this rendition depicts several arhats conversing amidst a landscape of rocks and pines. Their expressions are lively and gestures natural, conveying warmth and spiritual kinship. The meticulously patterned robes and individually characterized postures demonstrate refined command of traditional figure painting. The transcendent setting, ancient pines and rugged stone, elevates the scene beyond the mundane, creating an atmosphere of otherworldly serenity. Part of a series of eight arhat paintings.
