Repose Beneath Pine and Bamboo (After Shi Tao) (羅漢圖之八)

After Shi Tao's originals, this closing piece in the series depicts an arhat at ease beneath a pine tree, with a cluster of slender bamboo growing nearby. The combination of pine and bamboo, both symbols of integrity and perseverance in Chinese culture, frames the relaxed figure in an atmosphere of earned tranquility. Where other paintings in the series show the arhat in action, meditation, or discourse, this final work offers a vision of quiet contentment. Part of a series of eight arhat paintings.
